Middletown Police Launch Special Traffic Stops for Autistic Individuals
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — Officers from the Middletown Police Department conducted a traffic stop training session specifically designed for individuals on the autism spectrum.
Police officers showed how the DMV’s "blue envelope" functions and emphasized its significance for individuals with Autism.
The envelope contains the driver’s insurance card, driver’s license, and vehicle registration all bundled together in a single packet.
Lt. Dan Petrulis stated, “They can realize that being stopped by the police doesn’t necessarily have to be frightening. Knowing what to anticipate makes them feel more at ease when it occurs in reality, and it also provides an opportunity for us to gain insights from them as well. So, this benefits everyone involved.”
