Phillips, who was chosen No. 143 overall, becomes the first Terrapin defensive lineman drafted since Byron Cowart in 2019.
Phillips moved from Tennessee to Maryland and has consistently been a key player on Maryland's defensive line over the last two seasons. During this time, he accumulated 57 total tackles (with 31 being solo) and managed to secure 2.5 tackles for a loss.
Phillips' freakish strength makes him an asset as a pass rusher and a run defender. Pro Football Focus graded Phillips as the 13th-best interior defender in the Big Ten with a 71.4 grade (min 500 snaps). His 71.3 tackling grade ranked fourth, and his 72.7 pass-rush grade ranked eighth.
Twelve selections after their previous choice, the Dolphins utilized their subsequent fifth-round pick on another Terrapin – safety Dante Trader Jr. Throughout his four-year tenure at Maryland, he started in 35 games and concluded his college career with 190 tackles, three for loss, five interceptions, and 15 pass breakups.

For three consecutive seasons—from 2022 to 2024—he was ranked within the top three in tackles for the Terps.
Pro Football Focus has named Trader as the top-rated tackler (with a score of 90.0) in the Big Ten Conference among players with at least 500 snaps. Additionally, his performance against the run, graded at 83.0, placed him sixth overall. According to their Big Board rankings,Trader is positioned at number 257.
