Meet the Indomitable Student Juggling Six Jobs and Acing Their Degree

This dedicated college student shared how they have been excelling academically while juggling six part-time positions simultaneously.

Dedicated Gina Brand resolved not to treat college casually and set out to support herself through her studies while also financing the lifestyle she aspires to lead.

The student has been utilizing her income to support her lifestyle at college, finance travel adventures around the globe, and she has also set aside money for buying a house down the line.

Gina, who hails from Blackburn, UK, shared this sentiment: "Juggling six different jobs has been both fulfilling and demanding; however, it’s all worthwhile once those paycheck moments arrive."

I manage my job, education, and personal life quite effectively. I take on extra shifts whenever I can so that I can spoil myself during vacations and also ensure that all expenses are covered.

I put in my utmost effort to save money, but as a university student, it’s challenging to do so. Taking up multiple jobs definitely assists with this.

She stated, "I manage my finances well, so I make sure to set some funds apart. My savings go towards purchasing a home, covering yearly car insurance, as well as planning vacations and trips."

During the summertime, I plan to spend four weeks in Sri Lanka volunteering for a marine and wildlife conservation initiative, which is why I've been setting money aside.

Both my family and friends appreciate how proactive I am and how diligently I strive to excel across various areas of my life. They are highly supportive of all my endeavors.

Gina is currently finishing up her last year studying Business and Marketing at Northumbria University with the aim of achieving an outstanding degree. However, this has not prevented her from taking on additional work alongside her studies.

Although she states that academic responsibilities will remain paramount, she has taken on six distinct roles to achieve her aspirations. These positions include serving at a bar, laboring in a warehouse, engaging in hospitality services, acting as a student representative, fulfilling duties as a student brand manager, and producing content.

Throughout the academic term, when she has coursework obligations, Gina juggles working 16 hours per week in the hospitality sector along with spending about four hours weekly as a content creator. She also dedicates additional hours each week to serving as a student representative and managing a brand.

She mentions that she added over £200 weekly from tips and bonuses, during school breaks when she worked about 40 hours per week primarily at her warehouse position, which boosted her income to more than £400 each week.

She added that her coursework can add up to another 12 hours a week which she believes works in tandem with her jobs, and allows her to keep on thriving with her education.

Gina said: "I decided to work six jobs alongside Uni as it enabled me to obtain an income to support my expenses and to go towards travel in the semester breaks.

"My jobs are split between Uni and my home town, enabling me to earn an income wherever I am.

My university timetable consists of up to 12 hours per week, which fits nicely with my studies until the exam period starts.

I consistently prioritize Uni above all else, and once assignment season starts, I cut back on my hours to dedicate more effort towards uniwork.

She stated, "My commute to work is brief. In my hometown, I handle my warehouse duties through an agency, and the longest trip I've made is 20 minutes, though typically it’s only around 15 minutes."

"My bar job back home is a 10-minute drive. My student rep job is on campus and as a student brand manager, I work similarly to an estate agent and show students around properties which are all based in close proximity to Newcastle Centre, so the commute is small.

The essence of my role as a content creator revolves around capturing various videos showcasing the university’s dining options. In contrast, my hospitality position is with an external agency, which means I work at different locations.

I'm really enjoying my work; each day varies quite a bit in most of these roles, and I like collaborating with my friends at work. Being a student brand manager is particularly appealing because it allows me to organize viewings and take part in various marketing events.

The student mentioned that she is well on her way to earning a first-class degree since she maintained an average of 75% which qualifies as a first this past second year and has currently scored 87% in her third year up until now.

Gina added, "My professional aspiration is to secure a position in marketing. Specifically, I hope to join a marketing firm where I can collaborate with numerous companies across multiple initiatives."

I set aside money annually for volunteer work, and so far I have served in Fiji and Bali; this coming year, Sri Lanka will be my next destination.

The funds are also used for everyday expenses, however, I have set aside a few thousand dollars for purchasing a home.

At its height, I was making £250 per week during term time along with additional tips and bonuses whenever I successfully rented out a property.

"Now I earn around £150 a week. In the Uni semester breaks I earn £430 a week from the warehouse!"
