Man Succumbs to Injuries Days After Deadly Downtown Minneapolis Shooting

Last week, a man who was shot in downtown Minneapolis succumbed to his wounds on Thursday, as reported by the Minneapolis Police Department.
The individual involved, reportedly in their 20s according to law enforcement officials, hasn't been named for the public so far, and as of now, no one has been taken into custody.
The murder count stands at eight for this year within the city, which is less than half of the 18 recorded during the same period last year, based on data from a Star Tribune database.
Police believe the man was shot close to the junction of 5th Avenue South and 9th Avenue South Around 6:30 PM on April 18th. Following the shooting incident, the victim operated a vehicle for approximately one city block before colliding with another car en route. Fortunately, nobody sustained injuries during either the shooting or the subsequent collision.
Every loss of life is profoundly concerning," stated Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara. "Although a reduction in violent crimes provides some hope, every fresh incident of violence—or life taken away—underscores the considerable efforts still needed.
The killing occurs as Minneapolis has seen a return to gun violence similar to pre-pandemic times during the initial four months of this year. By the corresponding date in 2019, the city had documented seven murders, based on a Star Tribune database.
In early April, O'Hara additionally stated that the count of non-fatal shooting victims in the city had dropped to what it was before the pandemic.
A release from the police department attributed the drop in gun violence to a number of strategies, including focused enforcement in city neighborhoods most impacted by violent crime and toward “high-impact offenders,” along with collaborations with community groups and the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
