Man Faces Murder Charges Months After Lethal Buechel Shooting

More than two and a half months following the shooting death of a man in the Buechel area, the Louisville Metro Police Department has apprehended someone in connection with the case.

The LMPD was summoned to the vicinity of Bardstown Road and Fegenbush Lane on January 24 at approximately 5:30 p.m. regarding a reported shooting incident.

The police arrived to find 25-year-old Taylor Mudd shot within his vehicle. He was rushed to the medical facility but succumbed to his injuries later.

On Thursday, the LMPD took into custody Eric Slayton. He faces charges including murder, assault, possessing stolen goods, and stealing a vehicle registration.

Based on an arrest report, Mudd was traveling in a vehicle with another person when Slayton went through a stop sign. The document states that after this incident, Slayton proceeded to follow Mudd and the other individual, eventually drawing alongside their vehicle and brandishing a pistol at them.

According to the arrest report, Slayton opened fire on Mudd and the driver when they halted at a traffic signal. Following the shooting incident, he fled from the scene.

The driver was hit in their side.

Later, police managed to pinpoint Slayton as a suspect, with records showing his phone was present at the scene of the shooting on January 24.

The LMPD later discovered the vehicle driven by Slayton, which had been reported as stolen, left abandoned.

Even though Slayton has been taken into custody, the LMPD states that their investigation regarding the shooting is ongoing.
