Korean War's Aviators Set to Soar into the Spotlight at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025

The innovative aviation technology from the time of the Korean War will be prominently showcased as a key feature at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2025 Taking place from July 21-27 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, this event coincides with the global commemoration of 75 years since the beginning of the Korean War—a pivotal moment in military aviation history. Visitors will have the opportunity to see the remarkable progression from propeller-driven combat planes to the advent of jets. Aircraft from these eras will be displayed both indoors and outdoors, participating in daily aerial demonstrations. The Korean War-era airplanes can be explored in detail within Boeing Plaza and the Warbirds section, as well as during each day’s flight performances.
Although legendary WWII planes like the Corsair and P-51 Mustang remained significant when the Korean War began in 1950, jets including the F-86 Sabre and MiG-15 quickly took center stage on the battlefield," explained Rick Larsen, who serves as EAA’s vice president of communities and member programs. "This shift marked a crucial turning point in aviation history, one which AirVenture 2025 aims to vividly recreate for attendees.

The list of confirmed piston-driven aircraft encompasses the F4U Corsair, P-51 Mustang, B-29 Superfortress, AD-4 and AD-5W Skyraiders, PB4Y, and L-5 Sentinel. The era of jets is represented by the Lockheed P-80, Republic F-84, MiG-15, MiG-17, as well as the iconic F-86 Sabre. Notably, this year marks significant anniversaries for these planes: the 85th anniversary of the F4U Corsair, the 80th anniversary of the A-1 Skyraider, and the 75th anniversary of the MiG-17—each contributing an extra layer of historical importance to the occasion.

Throughout the week, visitors can expect to see Korean War-era aircraft and exhibits; however, the primary commemorative activities are set for Wednesday through Friday, July 23-25. During these days, attendees will enjoy exclusive airshow performances as well as specially curated evening shows at both EAA’s Theater in the Woods and the Fly-In Theater. Additional information about these events will be provided in the upcoming months. AirVenture 2025 is set to serve as a strong homage to the innovation and heritage of the Korean War aviation period—a festival honoring both the aircraft and the pilots who expanded the horizons of aerial navigation during a crucial epoch in world history.
