Keanu Reeves Tangled in Disturbing Crime Scandal

Actor Keanu Reeves' name was dragged into a troubling crime case involving a scam.

A scammer used Reeves' identity to defraud a Florida woman, according to Fox13 . The woman ended up losing $160,000 after sending money to someone she thought was Reeves.

It wasn't Reeves, who is not accused of wrongdoing in connection with the investigation.

Dianne Ringstaff outlined how the scam worked to Fox13.

She told the television station that a person started communicating with her while she was playing Words With Friends . The scammer claimed to be Keanu Reeves.

The scammer was sophisticated enough to send Ringstaff a video.

She believed 'It cannot be,' upon seeing it, as per Ringstaff. Fox13. Until he recorded me, and I thought, Oh my God, that’s him!

Of course, it wasn't, but she managed to convince herself that she was really communicating with the Matrix actor.

She said, 'I couldn’t believe what I saw. Even though he seemed to be far off, I could have sworn it was him,' to the TV channel.

It was then that the demands for funds began.

The motives behind why the swindler sought funds ranged from the courts blocking his assets to issues with a previous manager, as reported. Fox13 , and Ringstaff continued to send funds.

Clearly, the genuine Reeves wouldn't have to request funds from anybody, as his wealth stands at an estimated $380 million or more. according to Celebrity Net Worth.

Ringstaff addressed the "romance scam" publicly with the hope that others will not become victims of it, as reported. Fox13 , as reported that law enforcement informed her of the scam since the fraudsters were utilizing her accounts to transfer funds from other victims.
