Two correctional officers from Arkansas found themselves behind bars in another county on allegations of animal cruelty after officials received information suggesting that a former police dog was facing neglect and abuse. news release On Thursday, Greene County Sheriff Brad Snyder stated that a tip suggested retired police dog Bane had been chained outdoors without food, water, or shade and appeared significantly emaciated. Huffstetler and Johnson, who are both 20 years old, lost their jobs and faced charges for one count of aggravated cruelty to a dog, cat, or horse. This offense qualifies as a Class D felony according to the sheriff. He mentioned that Bane had started working with the sheriff’s department six years earlier and was retired in January of the previous year when he reached the age of seven. Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette Reports indicate that Bane was taken in by his handler, Jimmy Huffstetler, initially. However, at some juncture post-retirement, the former police dog Bane ended up being cared for by Jimmy’s offspring, Ethan, as mentioned by Snyder. The sheriff also noted that “during his tenure with this department, retired K9 Bane provided exceptional service to Greene County.”
