Idaho State University's PA Program Soars to Its Highest National Ranking Yet

The Physician Assistant (PA) program at Idaho State University has attained its best rank yet, placing 26th out of the leading PA graduate programs across the country as per U.S. News & World Report. This represents a notable leap from its former position at number 50 and makes the institution eligible for recognition under the "U.S. News Best Graduate Schools" accolade.

The PA program at the College of Idaho provides an intensive 24-month course resulting in a Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) degree along with a PA certification. This program spans three locations within Idaho and utilizes sophisticated telepresence tools to focus on high-quality clinical practice, active faculty involvement, and community service.

Jared Papa, the program director, stated, “Securing the 26th position nationally is an impressive feat and underscores the exceptional education and training offered by our program. Given that there are currently 310 such programs across the country—with more being added regularly—this acknowledgment spotlights the quality and influence of our program.”

The program has been granted a complete 10-year accreditation renewal lately, cementing its position as a key component of ISU’s academic programs for the next ten years. Moreover, both the Idaho legislature and university investments have provided $17 million for improvements to facilities. Construction on a new life sciences building at the Pocatello campus will commence in August, with an expected completion date around early 2027.

Throughout the years, the PA program has received numerous benefits from various grants, notably those provided by the federal HRSA. These funds have been instrumental in supporting educational efforts in remote regions and specific programs like attracting rural high school students proficient in Spanish. This dedication to tackling health care demands is also evident through their partnership with Lewis-Clark State College aimed at enhancing physician assistant education across North Idaho.

The program's achievements highlight ISU's commitment to training competent physician assistants dedicated to enhancing and providing better healthcare within their local areas.
