Governor Marina del Pilar Unveils Baja California's Surge as a Premier Cruise Destination

Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila Olmeda of Baja California commended the development of the Port of Ensenada into a significant tourism hub, noting a considerable rise in both cruise ship visits and passenger numbers at the beginning of 2025.

The governor emphasized that Baja California stands out nationally due to its array of attractions and environments: including its oceans, deserts, mountain ranges, wineries, culinary offerings, as well as the distinctive hospitality of its residents. She affirmed this makes it distinct from the remainder of Mexico.

We are promoting Baja California as a premier global tourism hub brimming with culture, history, and unparalleled experiences," she stated. "Tourism remains at the forefront of our efforts to foster well-being, create jobs, and stimulate development within our localities.

She highlighted that the 49th edition of the Tianguis Turístico presents a significant chance to position the state as one of Mexico’s premier tourist attractions.

As reported by Mexico’s Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR), the Port of Ensenada saw 51 cruise ship arrivals from January to February 2025, which exceeds the 46 arrivals noted during the same months in 2024, marking an increase of approximately 10.9%.

The number of passengers increased by 25.5% as well, climbing from 135,399 in 2024 to 169,979 in 2025.

Ports along Mexico’s Pacific coast have received over 632,000 travelers so far this year, with Ensenada standing out as a top spot for cruise ship visitors.
