Full list of road closures and roadworks across the North East this week

There are a number of road closures in place across the North East This week, drivers ought to keep an eye out for these developments.

Newcastle

The lane is closed because of gas pipe maintenance on Coast Road Eastbound from Cochrane Park Avenue to Red Hall Drive in Heaton. Delays are expected until April 29th.
Temporary traffic signals are in place for roadwork being done on Benfield Road, Heaton, affecting both directions close to Cherrywood until the 2nd of May.
The lane closure due to roadwork activities is ongoing on North Walbottle Road in both directions from Queensbury Drive in Walbottle to Nuneaton Way in North Walbottle until 4 pm on May 5th.
The lane is closed because of roadwork being done on Wingrove Road between Fenham Hall Drive and Hadrian Road in Fenham. This will continue until May 9th.
Temporary traffic signals are in place because of roadwork being done on Stotts Road, Walkergate, affecting both directions close to Eastfield Avenue. The work will continue until May 10th.
Traffic taking turns due to gas main work on Lancing Court, Kingston Park, near Yeadon Court. Until May 15.
Traffic taking turns due to electricity work on Delaval Road in both directions between Armstrong Road and Westfield Road, Benwell. Until May 16.
Temporary traffic signals are in place because of roadwork being done on A186 West Road in both directions close to Gretna Road, East Denton. Delays should be anticipated. The situation will continue until May 16th.
Temporary traffic lights are in place on B1311 Benwell Lane in both directions close to Rushie Avenue, Benwell, because of electrical works until May 21.
Temporary traffic signals have been installed because of roadwork being done on B1311 Elswick Road at Grainger Park Road in Elswick, lasting until May 22.
Temporary traffic signals are in place for roadwork activities on A186 City Road in both directions close to Horatio Street. Delays should be anticipated. The situation will persist until May 24th.

Vehicles are prohibited from passing through this area because of roadwork activities along Lombard Street in both directions on B1600 Quayside. This restriction applies between 8 pm and 6 am every day from Monday to Sunday up until July 2028.

Gateshead

Temporary traffic signals will be implemented because of gas line maintenance on Prince Consort Road in both directions near Ely Street until May 6th.
Temporary traffic lights due to water main work on B6316 Sunniside Road in both directions between Broadway and Granby Close. Until May 9.
Traffic taking turns due to gas main work on Newquay Gardens in both directions between Dartmouth Avenue and Cromer Avenue. Until May 9.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on Cromer Avenue near Bideford Gardens. Until May 19.
Narrow lanes and speed restriction of 50mph due to major widening works on A1 Western Bypass Westbound from J65, Birtley to J67, Coalhouse Roundabout. Expect delays. Work to create an extra lane in each direction. Until May 31.
South Road in Chopwell will be shut down because of roadwork activities stretching from Derwent Street to Wansbeck Street, with the closure lasting until April 23, 2026.
A167 Gateshead The highway is shut down in both directions because of extended roadwork happening between the B1426 and A184 Park Lane.

North Tyneside

Temporary traffic signals have been installed on B1505 Station Road in Killingworth, close to A1056 Killingworth Way, because of ongoing works on the gas main. The disruption will last until April 29th.
A one-way system along with extended roadwork activities are currently in place on Beverley Terrace and Grand Parade heading north from Grand Parade all the way to Marden Avenue in Cullercoats. This will continue until April 30th.
Grand Parade and Beverley Terrace are closed southbound until April 30 because of lengthy roadwork projects extending from Marden Avenue to Beach Road in Cullercoats.
Temporary traffic signals have been installed because of roadwork activities on Corver Way, Benton, close to Colliery Close. This will continue until May 30th.
Temporary traffic signals will be installed on Kings Road in both directions close to High View, Wallsend, because of electrical works starting from now until April 20th.
Temporary traffic signals have been installed because of roadwork being done on Wooley Street at Wallsend bus station. This will continue until May 21.
Electricity works and contraflow will be implemented on A187 Buddle Street from Benton Way to A186 Station Road in Wallsend. Delays are anticipated until May 28.
No vehicles except local access are permitted on Russell Street in both directions at Bedford Street, North Shields because of roadworks. The restriction will be in place until July 31.
Temporary traffic signals have been installed because of roadwork activities taking place on Promontory Terrace close to Eskdale Terrace in Whitley Bay. This will continue until September 29th.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A193 The Links near Eastbourne Avenue, Whitley Bay. Expect delays. Until October 15.
Temporary traffic signals are in place for roadwork being done on the A193 in both directions at Promenade, Whitley Bay. The work continues until October 16th.

South Tyneside

Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on Argyle Street, Hebburn, in both directions between Montrose Crescent and Sharpendon Street. Until May 6.
Temporary traffic signals have been installed on Dame Flora Robson Avenue in both directions from Wenlock Road to Laybourn Gardens, South Shields, because of gas main work. The disruption will continue until June 4th.
Due to gas main work being carried out on Stoker Avenue, South Shields, traffic will be required to take turns in both directions between Dame Flora Robson Avenue and Bainbridge Avenue. This will continue until June 5th.

Northumberland

Due to gas main work being carried out on Beaconsfield Street in Blyth, traffic will be required to take turns in both directions near Plessey Road until May 1st.
Temporary traffic lights due to telecoms work on A697, Longhorsley, in both directions between Whitegates and Fenrother Lane. Until May 2.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on A695, Prudhoe, in both directions at B6395 West Road. Until May 6.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A196 North Seaton Road in both directions between Green Lane and West View, Ashington. Until May 9.
Temporary traffic signals are in place for roadwork activities on Cavendish Terrace in both directions at A196 North Seaton Road, Ashington. The disruption will continue until May 9th.
Temporary traffic signals have been installed because of telecommunications work happening on Hawthorn Road in both directions close to Woodhorn Road in Ashington. The disruption will continue until May 12th.
Station Road in Prudhoe has roadwork happening in both directions. The work will continue until May 12.
Temporary traffic signals are in place because of gas main work happening on the B1505 in both directions from Mayfield Avenue to the A189 in Cramlington. The disruption will continue until May 13th.
Temporary traffic signals are in place because of gas main work happening on B1329 Hodgsons Road in both directions close to Cowpen Road in Blyth, until May 15.
Common Bank in both directions closed due to roadworks between the A686 and Thornley Gate, Bearsbridge. Until May 15.
Due to telecommunications work being carried out on First Avenue in Ashington, traffic will be required to take turns alternately in both directions near Hawthorn Road until May 21st.
Temporary traffic signals will be installed because of gas pipe operations on Alderley Way, Cramlington, affecting both directions close to the B1505 until May 21.
A single lane is shut down because of construction work on Bebside Furnace Road in both directions at A193 Front Street, Bebside, until May 30.
Temporary traffic signals have been put in place for the duration of the gas main works along A193 Cowpen Road in both directions from B1329 Hodgsons Road to Disraeli Street in Blyth until June 19.
Eastbound traffic on Newsham Road is currently disrupted because of roadwork activities stretching from B1523 to Blagdon Drive in South Newsham. The closure will remain until September 11th.

Sunderland

Burdon Lane in Ryhope closed due to roadworks from Nettles Lane, Ryhope, to Burdon Road, Burdon. Until May 8.
Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on A183 Harbour View in both directions at Pier View (Bungalow Café roundabout), Hendon. Until June 9.
Easington Street in both directions closed due to roadworks from Sheepfolds North to Richmond Street. Until September 30.

County Durham

Traffic taking turns due to gas main work on Buckinghamshire Road in both directions between Nottinghamshire Road and Lancashire Drive, Belmont. Until April 30.
Temporary traffic lights due to water main work on West Lane, Trimdon, in both directions near Harap Road. Until April 30.
Temporary traffic lights due to water main work on A689 East End in both directions at Bondisle Way, Stanhope. Until April 30.
No vehicles except local access are permitted on Young Street owing to gas mains maintenance happening in both directions from A181 Sherburn Road to Sunderland Road. This will continue until May 1st.
Temporary traffic signals will be installed for gas main works on Cutlers Hall Road, Bridgehill, affecting both directions of the A691 until May 2nd.
Traffic taking turns due to gas main work on Laurel Avenue, Gilesgate, in both directions at Ash Avenue. Until May 9.
Temporary traffic signals have been installed because of roadwork activities on Cocken Road, Leamside, affecting both directions close to Pithouse Lane. The disruption will continue until May 9th.
Temporary traffic signals have been installed because of roadwork being carried out on Pithouse Lane, Leamside, close to Cocken Road. The situation will remain until May 9th.
Temporary traffic lights due to gas main work on Edge Court in both directions near A181 Sherburn Road. Until May 9.
Traffic will be diverted because of telecommunications work happening on Scripton Gill Road, Brandon, affecting both directions close to Beech Park until May 19.
Temporary traffic signals are in place for roadwork being conducted on the A177 at Bishop Middleham, affecting both directions close to Harap Road. The disruption will last until May 29th.
Malvern Crescent has been shut down because of roadwork activities extending from Ryton Crescent in Dalton le Dale all the way to Queensbury Road in Seaham, with the closure expected to last until June 6th.
The narrow roads along Framwelgate Waterside will be restricted in both directions from Sidegate to Millburngate until December 31, 2027.
