Doolittle Fire Protection District Aims to Cut Response Times with New Jerome Station Opening

JEROME, Mo. (KY3) -- The Doollette Fire Protection District facility in Jerome is undergoing essential renovations to be reopened as a fire station.
Up until now, the structure has been utilized for storage purposes; however, this will undergo a transformation shortly as a local resident restores it, thereby providing firefighters with a completely operational station once more.
"That really cuts costs, and since we have a modest team here, each cent makes a difference," stated Firefighter Rick Barnes.
"It will guarantee that everyone living in this region is within one to two miles of an operational fire station," stated Firefighter Robert Sallee.
Firefighters state that the new station in Jerome will reduce response times by half, and these critical minutes might be the difference between life and death.
"We have some firefighters from our department residing in this vicinity, which allows them to report here rather than traveling all the way to the Doolittle station," explained Sallee.
The firefighters assert that this initiative reduces both the response time for emergencies and the overall expense associated with it.
"A structure like this with all amenities would cost you about $70,000 by the end of this year; however, we might be able to get something similar for around $35-40,000," explained Barnes.
The firefighters anticipate the station will be prepared within a few weeks.
