Donated Devices Tackle Digital Exclusion in the UK

Over 30 smartphones and tablets have been contributed to those in need by ODS.

The contribution, comprising brand-new as well as pre-used Samsung gadgets, will be handed over to people and households without current access to vital digital equipment via Getting Oxfordshire Online.

This will assist them in accessing education, services, employment, and community support.

Harry Clent, an ICT service delivery analyst at ODS—which is owned by Oxford City Council and provides both public and commercial services—stated: "Access to digital resources is not a luxury anymore; it has become essential."

We're delighted to back Getting Oxfordshire Online in their effort to equip individuals with the resources required for full societal participation.

Oxfordshire Gets Connected partners with local authorities, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and companies to revamp and share recycled tech equipment with individuals facing digital exclusion.

John Dennis, ICT manager at Getting Oxfordshire Online, said: "This generous donation of phones and tablets from ODS will allow us to provide much-needed devices to people experiencing digital exclusion.

This will allow our beneficiaries to participate in virtual courses, submit job applications, and stay connected with their families and support staff.

In today’s world, having a smartphone along with a SIM card can significantly impact whether an individual finds it easy to utilise various services and assistance or faces difficulties when dealing with daily activities that currently assume everyone has such technology at their disposal.

This marks the initial contribution from ODS, with additional donations scheduled for the upcoming months.
