Deputies Arrest Man for Firing at Teens in Spartanburg County

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) — On Wednesday evening, law enforcement apprehended an individual suspected of firing at minors.

The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office stated that deputies responded to a reported shooting at the Enoree Mart located on Highway 92 shortly before midnight, arriving around 11:30 p.m. following their call.

Upon arrival at the location, the deputies discovered four teenagers inside an automobile. Both the vehicle and two of these young individuals had sustained gunshot wounds. The injured parties were promptly transported to the medical facility.

The deputies stated that the minors should make a full recovery from their injuries.

Following conversations with the two additional juvenile individuals, law enforcement officers learned that the incident involving gunfire took place close to a residence on Spring Street in Enoree. According to these minors, they had arranged to meet at this spot for a confrontation with several teenagers.

At the residence, the children informed sheriff’s deputies that a man emerged from the house and discharged several shots from a rifle into the ground. As they tried to depart, the suspect reportedly opened fire again towards their vehicle, striking both victims.

Following their conversation with the teenagers, the deputies stated that they concluded the suspect, identified as Brennan James Readinger, was under house arrest for an aggravated assault charge from 2024.

The deputies proceeded to the residence on Spring Street, ordered Readinger to exit the house, and subsequently arrested him for violating his terms of home confinement.

Authorities stated that cartridge cases and a rifle were discovered at the residence.

Reader, aged 35, faced charges including four counts of attempted homicide, carrying a weapon during a criminal act, firing a gun at an uninhabited vehicle, and possessing a weapon despite being a previously convicted individual.

Spartanburg County deputies have detained Readinger 15 times since 2007.
