'Days of Discussion': Ralston Students Explore Careers at Exciting Vehicle Day

Many kids have big dreams about what they want to be when they grow up, such as a firefighter, or maybe a reporter.
However, they may not have the opportunity to interact with those people.

Students at Ralston Public Schools got the chance to be up close and personal to trucks and machinery of all kinds at the third annual Vehicle Day.
"All the kids are lighting up and just it just seems like they're having just a great time," Tyler Honcik, warehouse supervisor for Weitz Company, said.
The morning was filled with sounds, sights and a new experience for many kids.
Ralston teachers say seeing vehicles helps kids get a better idea of what people in different careers do, and why they're so helpful to our community.
"The kids love coming out, seeing all the vehicles. The community is awesome. By showing the first grade all the vehicles, and they're excited, and they talk about this for days and weeks afterwards," John Loterbour, first-grade teacher at Meadows Elementary, said.
Employees said vehicle day helps them see their job from a new perspective.
"It's a great opportunity for the kids to, you know, get into the equipment that we utilize every day on our job sites and to just have them experience what it might be like to do our job," Honcik said.
The Ralston Public School system said they're grateful to all the organizations that showed up and made it such a memorable experience for the students.
