Colorado Springs holding several drop-off sites for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) — On Saturday, communities nationwide will participate in 'Drug Take Back Day,' with several locations in southern Colorado joining in as well.
If you have unused or expired prescription drugs, you can dispose of them properly at one of four drop-off sites.
Without days like the National Take Back Day, leftover drugs can find their way into the wrong hands, like a child, an addict or a pet.
People across the United States are emptying their medicine chests and discreetly disposing of unused prescriptions in a safe manner.
If you’re planning on disposing of your expired medicines on Saturday, all you have to do is make sure they’re stored in a sealed bag or container at one of the drop-off sites.
The Colorado Springs Police Department informed 11 News that alternative methods like discarding medicines or flushing them down the toilet could pose risks to public health or the ecosystem.
“We don’t want people flushing it down the toilet because we don’t want to pollute our water supply,” Caitlin Ford with CSPD said, “so finding safe and appropriate ways of disposing of these prescription medications is really important.”
