Clemson Star R.J. Mickens Joins the LA Chargers in 2025 NFL Draft

Another Clemson player is off the board. Safety R.J. Mickens was selected by the Los Angeles Chargers with the No. 214 overall pick in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Mickens concluded his impressive career with this achievement. Clemson He became only the tenth player in the program’s history to play in 60 career games. Throughout his four years, he accumulated 229 tackles, with 13.5 for losses, seven interceptions, and 15 pass deflections. During his final season in 2024, he achieved a personal best of 85 tackles along with two interceptions and seven pass breakups across 13 starting appearances.
The son of former longtime NFL defensive back Ray Mickens, R.J. is now set to carve out his own legacy at the next level. His time at Clemson included two ACC Championships and a return to the College Football Playoff this past season. Clemson star linebacker Barrett Carter was the first Tiger taken off the board in the fourth round.
Mickens brings to the Chargers a wise and seasoned defensive back with demonstrated proficiency in making consistent plays against the rush and in pass coverage.
