Car Carrier Blaze Engulfs Multiple Vehicles on I-395 in Plainfield

A vehicle that was being transported on a car carrier caught on fire while in transit on Saturday and spread to other vehicles.

Police were dispatched to I-395 South close to exit 32 around 1 AM following a report about a car fire.

Based on reports from state police, a vehicle that had been loaded onto a car-carrying semi-truck burst into flames during transport and subsequently ignited other cars on the same trailer.

The exact number of vehicles harmed by the fire remains unknown.

The road was temporarily shut down but has now been reopened. There have been no reports of injuries.

As they were at the location, a patrol car from Plainfield Police was struck by another vehicle traveling at an excessive speed. At the time of the accident, the police officer was not within the police cruiser and consequently did not sustain any injuries.
