The California Department of Motor Vehicles is rapidly depleting the numerical resources for its present license plate configuration. According to a statement from a DMV representative to The News Pulse, the department anticipates reaching the limit of this sequence sometime in 2026.

California's current license plate format has had a lengthy duration. It was introduced back in 1980 with the designation 1AAA000.

Before 1980, California license plates had a distinct, abbreviated configuration. These plates featured three digits followed by three alphabetic characters.

What follows next? The division has adopted a fresh setup that essentially represents a reversed mirrored version of the present layout.

In an email to The News Pulse, DMV public information officer Ronald Ongtoaboc stated, "The format for the upcoming sequence will be 'Number Number Number Letter Letter Letter Number' (for example, 000AAA0)."
