California Politics Update: Key Insights for April 26, 2025

(INSIDE CALIFORNIA POLITICS) — On this episode of Inside California Politics, former adviser to UK Prime Minister David Cameron and ex-FOX News presenter Steve Hilton appeared as a guest alongside host Nikki Laurenzo. They talked about his recent announcement to run for Governor of California.

Hilton has frequently criticized California's Democratic leadership and expressed his desire to loosen the party's grip on the state.

The individual set to triumph in 2026 will be the one advocating for change," Hilton stated. "Even some of the Democratic candidates for governor have expressed this view... In his announcement video for the gubernatorial race as a Democrat, Xavier Becerra mentioned 'The California dream that was available to my parents doesn't exist anymore.' I concur entirely with him. However, who is responsible for taking it away? It was members of his own party and their policies.

Hilton referred to his experiences in the UK as an example of how he could collaborate effectively with a legislature controlled by Democrats.

It was under Prime Minister David Cameron, a conservative leader, that I had the opportunity to work, though we were operating within a coalition government," Hilton explained. "This involved both the Conservative Party and the Liberal Democrats. I found myself deeply engaged in this process, assisting with negotiations surrounding the formation of the coalition agreement.
