Auto Industry Titans Join Forces to Urge Trump for Tariff Concessions

(The News Pulse) -- A group of prominent automotive industry associations is urging the Trump administration to reconsider its plan to impose tariffs on imported auto components early next month.

The lobby organizations, including the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, American Automotive Policy Council, Autos Drive America, and the National Automobile Dealers Association, addressed a communiqué to President Donald Trump. This letter became known publicly on Tuesday. In their message, they cautioned about an impending tariff of May 3rd targeting imported automotive components, suggesting it might lead to factory closures across the U.S. and result in significant job cuts.

"Imposing tariffs on automobile components will disrupt the worldwide automotive supply chain and trigger a cascade of effects resulting in increased car costs for buyers, reduced sales volumes at dealerships, and elevate expenses as well as decrease reliability when maintaining and fixing vehicles," the letter stated.

An exemption similar to ones granted by the White House previously issued For certain sectors like consumer electronics and semiconductors, this "would be a favorable outcome and much-needed respite," the organizations stated.

The letter was also signed by organizations such as the American International Automobile Dealers Association and the Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association, known as MEMA.
