Colorful Cultures and Culinary Creations: Colorado's Boys and Girls Club Cook Off
A fresh cookbook is addressing food insecurity through taste and pride. By weaving together narratives of cultural heritage, it aims to feed children within the community. Titled "The Spark & Spoon Family Cookbook," this publication includes contributions from families at the Boston Boys & Girls Club in Aurora, each offering their cherished family recipes.

The cookbook marks the most recent achievement for the Spark & Spoon Project, an ongoing effort spanning several years initiated by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver in collaboration with Simply Good Foods and major retailer King Soopers.
The aim is to tackle food insecurity, childhood obesity, and deficiencies in nutritional education via food programs that are both culturally significant and easily accessible.
numerous thrilling elements came together to create this cookbook," stated Rachel Rooney, Senior Director of Philanthropy at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver. "A lot of our children, particularly those at our Boston branch, truly enjoyed cooking. They often dreamed about potentially making their own cookbook someday. That’s when our collaborators from Simply Good Foods stepped in and declared, ‘Let’s turn this dream into reality.’
Simply Good Foods assisted in collecting recipes from club members, put them through testing at their corporate kitchen, and worked together on the design process.

The standout feature of this cookbook is its wide array of international recipes.
All of these recipes were contributed by our families, originating from various regions where these families hail from," explained Rooney. "The collection spans numerous countries—ranging from Mexico to Brazil to Venezuela—and encompasses locations across the globe.
The revenue generated from the cookbook will directly aid these health-focused initiatives. With each copy priced at $20, all proceeds from its sale will be reinvested into nutritional and well-being programs for the clubs.
Our colleagues at Simply Good and our collaborators at King Soopers strongly support our Healthy Lifestyles Program," stated Rooney. "While we educate children on proper nutrition, we also guarantee they receive adequate meals. We offer nutritious dinners along with wholesome snacks so that nobody lacks for sustenance when they're in need.
You can buy the cookbook at 15 King Soopers stores across Metro Denver. For a complete list of these locations, visit the Boys &Girls Clubs of Metro Denver’s website. bgcmd.org .
