Rubio Warns: War with Iran Would Be "Far Messier Than Expected"

Secretary of State Marco Rubio cautioned in a recent interview that a possible conflict with Iran could be "far more complicated" and "messy" compared to the military operations Americans have witnessed in recent times.

"Any military operation at this stage in the Middle East, regardless of whether it involves us taking action against Iran or anyone else doing so, has the potential to ignite a significantly larger war," Rubio stated. Interview with The Free Press published Wednesday.

Rubio stated that such an imagined confrontation "won't resemble what viewers typically see on TV, where usually a few drones get knocked down yet they claim a hundred fighter jets were destroyed or something similar."

"This will be more complicated," he said additionally.

Rubio stated that President Trump is dedicated to avoiding an armed conflict and has instructed his administration to expedite nuclear discussions with Iran as a result.

"Any form of armed confrontation in the area will likely be far more complex than what most people have witnessed before. This is precisely why the president remains steadfastly dedicated to achieving a peaceful solution and preventing any military clash. Even though he retains all rights necessary to stop Iran from acquiring a nuclear arsenal, his priority lies with maintaining peace. As he has consistently emphasized this point, our aim also includes bringing about an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine, should such action prove feasible," stated Rubio.

Following comments from The Free Press’s Bari Weiss, the Secretary addressed an assertion made by former Fox News host Tucker Carlson. He stated that striking Iran’s nuclear sites could "likely lead to thousands of American fatalities across various Middle Eastern military installations and incur costs for the U.S. amounting to billions of dollars. ... These figures are not speculative; they reflect the Pentagon's projections. An attack on Iran would ignite a conflict, one that would inevitably involve American forces."

U.S. officials said They achieved "significant" headway during the second round of nuclear discussions with Iran over the weekend and mentioned their intention to reconvene the next week.

“A high-ranking U.S. administration official stated, ‘We have decided to reconvene next week and we appreciate our Omani counterparts for making this discussion possible and our Italian colleagues for welcoming us today.’”

In the interview, Rubio stated that the U.S. is "quite far from reaching any kind of agreement with Iran."

We acknowledge that it's challenging and tough. Sadly, peace frequently comes with difficulties," he went on. "However, we are dedicated to attaining a peaceful resolution that satisfies all parties involved. Whether this is feasible remains uncertain.

"I'm not sure whether Iran has the capability to strike a deal. They must navigate their complex domestic politics first. However, our aim is to reach a peaceful solution and avoid considering any alternative measures or speculating further at this juncture," he stated additionally.
