LETTER: Investing in Schools Means Investing in Our Children's Future
TO THE EDITOR:
Backing Midland Public Schools financially is an essential move to ensure our community’s prosperity.
Having been brought up in Midland and having enjoyed the benefits of the MPS system—attending schools like Cook, Woodcrest, Jefferson, and eventually graduating from Dow High in 1977—I can personally attest to its quality. My spouse and I shared this belief when we chose MPS for raising our own kids. Our experience underscores how crucial robust public schooling is and highlights what a difference it makes in family life. The advantage of being part of such a commendable local educational setup isn’t something everyone fully appreciates.
Over seventy-five percent of K-12 students in the U.S. go to public schools. Our children represent our tomorrow, and here in Midland, we have a substantial chance to improve their educational settings. Such improvements encompass revamping our facilities, upgrading school safety protocols, broadening access to preschool education, and elevating career and technical training initiatives.
This expenditure on our schools should not be seen as a misuse of our tax money; instead, it’s an essential investment in our kids and the whole Midland area. I encourage you to support the forthcoming MPS bond proposal alongside me. We owe our children top-notch education, and our community will benefit greatly from this for many years ahead.
